Whether you're a bride seeking unforgettable bridal portraits or a couple looking to celebrate your union in a one-of-a-kind fashion, Bonneville Salt Flats offers a surreal, otherworldly experience that transforms every moment into a breathtaking work of art. Let your love story unfold against the backdrop of this natural wonder, and create memories that will last a lifetime.

"When should I visit the Salt Flats?"

The best time to plan your Salt Flat session is 30 minutes before the sunset! If you are like me, you would love this location during every season of the year. However, you will always want to dress and prepare for the possibility of cold weather. The Salt Flats are located in a wind zone and during the winter months, it gets extremely cold! Make sure to bring a pair of tights that you can wear underneath your outfit or layer up.

In the fall, there are reflective pools of water that are absolutely stunning, especially for bridal photography. I always make sure to track the weather leading up to a session because certain types of clothing would definitely need dry cleaning after being totally doused in salt water.

This is a very popular tourist destination and during the fall months, there are a lot of different types of photo sessions that take place here! If you are interested in a more personal and quiet session, we can plan for a sunrise session, instead!

"What should I bring?"

Other than your gorgeous self, I recommend bringing the following items to any session:

  • Chapstick or Lip Gloss
  • Trash Bags for any Clothing that gets too Salty
  • A change of clothes for the ride home
  • Towels to put in your car

I think everyone can appreciate how unique the Salt Flats are. What I love about this location is that you can add such interesting elements to your session and elevate the images to an even higher level. You can bring a vintage car, stunning florals, a cathedral length veil, tandem bikes, a stool, pretty much anything you can think of! More about Salt Flats Photography

If you are bringing a couple or family to the Bonneville Salt Flats for a photo session, I highly highly recommend you bring a UV filter for your camera as the flats are in very harsh light for the majority of the day. Make sure you are comfortable shooting in direct sun. If you are not yet comfortable shooting in direct sun, reach out and let's plan a mentor session. I will guide you on everything you will need to know about shooting in manual at this beautiful location.

Direct your couples to turn into the Salt Flats Rest Area. This is where I meet my couples and have them follow my car down onto the salt flats. The salt flats are HUGE and it can be very easy to miss each other completely. Don't play any guessing games- especially because service is spotty on the flats.

If you are interested in having a branding session done on the Salt Flats, Let's Connect! This is one of my favorite spots for Individual Portrait Photography because of how adaptable the space is to your aesthetic.
